The election results are in and we welcome back some familiar faces, one returning from 2009 and three brand new Public Governors.

Mark Coppell has become a Public Governor for the first time, elected to the North East Derbyshire constituency for his first term. We also welcome back Mick Portman to the Chesterfield seat, having previously served one term of office from 2007. Mick has been joined by David Lyon and Margaret Rotchell who retained their seats for Chesterfield.

Glenis Bartle (Bolsover) and Kenneth Stonebrook (South Sheffield and Rotherham) are new, first time Public Governors who were elected unopposed, whilst Michael Grundman and John Riggarlsford (both Derbyshire Dales and North Amber Valley) were re-elected to their seats unopposed.

We also welcome a new Staff Governor with Physiotherapist Luke Jenkinson elected to the Allied Health Professionals, Pharmacists and Scientists Class.

Nicola Smith is the Trust’s Governor and Membership Officer, she said: “I’d like to welcome our new governors to the role and look forward to meeting them properly when they take their seats in the New Year. They will go through a period of induction to find out more about the hospital, its processes and meet our established Public Governors who will introduce them to the role and show them the ropes.

“I’m sure they’ll bring a great deal to the Council and it’s always nice to see some fresh faces to bring a different perspective to proceedings. They will be performing a vital role in holding the Board to account on behalf of our membership and I’m sure they will carry out the role brilliantly with the support of our more experienced governors. I’d also like to thank Paul Whitehouse for his fantastic work and service as a Staff Governor; we’re very grateful for his efforts and wish him well.

“There are still some seats that remain open and we will be holding a bi-election at some point in the New Year for an available seat in the High Peak constituency. There are also Staff Governor vacancies to fill so we will be doing the same thing for the All Other Staff and Medical and Dental classes so keep an eye on those in future newsletters.

“I would just like to say thank you to all of those who stood for election and those who voted for their time and effort. All of our governors perform a vital role for the benefit of our patients and staff and I look forward to working with them all in the year ahead.”
