The Care Quality Commission (CQC)

The CQC is the independent regulator of health and social care in England. Their role is to make sure health and social care services provide people with safe, effective, compassionate, high-quality care. On  May 17 2017 the CQC published their latest inspection report for Chesterfield Royal Hospital.

Our Inspection Report

It’s a good report – it recognises lots of excellent patient care and good practice, shows that we’re heading the right way and are already making improvements, and acknowledges that we’re clear about what needs to get better in our hospital and what we need to improve.

How did the CQC rate us?

The overall rating for the whole hospital is “Good.  You can see the full rating on the CQC’s website.

What did the CQC find at our hospital?

In July 2016 the CQC undertook a focused inspection which concentrated on those areas which were previously rated as ‘requires improvement’. The inspection demonstrated clear improvements being made with eleven of the sixteen area’s achieving a rating of ‘Good’.  In February 2017 the Trust underwent an inspection against the Well Led domain in which a rating of ‘Good’ was achieved and as such the Trust has been given an overall rating of ‘Good’.

In the report’s introduction, the CQC inspection team summarises that Patients were “treated with dignity and respect” and staff delivered “care with a kind, caring and compassionate attitude”.  As you would expect there are some good and outstanding practices highlighted and some things that we need to get better at, which the Trust is taking action to address.
