The Trust actively participates in good quality healthcare research in a range of clinical specialties. By participating in research we can contribute to local, national and international evidence based knowledge to improve patient care. Research not only helps to develop new and innovative treatments but also provides information about ways to improve existing treatment approaches. The Trust actively encourages and supports research ideas and activity from a range of healthcare professionals in all aspects of inpatient care. Research is carried out in conjunction with a range of partner organisations including the National Institution for Health Research Authority (NIHR), other NHS organisations, charities and academic institutions. The Trust also participates in a range of projects informing education for healthcare professionals.

‘OK to ASK’
This is a national campaign in which the Chesterfield Royal Hospital is proud to be involved in. The campaign 
is designed to ensure all patients have the information and confidence to join in clinical research trials. Although all research trials have specific conditions for entering, if you are interested in taking part please contact the Clinical Research team.
The Research Governance Framework (DOH 2002) sets out clear and unequivocal guidelines regarding the conduct, support and monitoring of research within NHS organizations. Whilst the process of initiating and undertaking research projects has become more stringent as a result of the Research Governance Framework, it is not intended to delay projects through unwieldy bureaucracy. It is the responsibility of the Research team to ensure that projects are dealt with in a timely manner. This is achieved through open dialogue with our local research ethics committee (LREC) and researchers, encouraging inquiries at any point in the process of initiating projects.
Getting started on a research project is sometimes problematic, but please contact the clinical research team if you need any further clarification or click on the link below to view the 'Clinical Trials guide' booklet which will give you valuable guidance on how to get involved with clinical trials. The Research Services is a part of Clinical Standards & Governance and the Research Admin Office can be found in the Education Centre.
