Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Service

The Gastroenterology Department within the Hospital specialises in the care and management of patients with IBD.

How will the advice service help me?

The aim of the IBD service is to ensure patients are offered the best possible care, information and treatment.

What if I have a flare up between appointments?

Please contact the nurse specialist or your GP for advice. The specialist nurse may advise you over the phone, or arrange a clinic appointment if necessary.

Please leave your full name, hospital number if known, date of birth and your contact details.  We aim to call/email back within 24-72 hours during the normal working week (Mon – Fri 9am –5pm).  Please be aware that the IBD team have various clinical commitments, there there might be a delay in responding, particularly if staff are on leave. 
Please remember this is only for advice regarding your IBD and not to be used in emergencies where the 111 or your GP may be more appropriate.  

Please ring the Advice line or Email:

  • If you have a flare of your IBD
  • Advice on your IBD treatment
  • Prescriptions for treatments prescribed by the hospital and not your GP for you IBD
  • Pregnancy in IBD
  • If we have advised you to following a treatment change or previous clinic appointment
  • Signs of Infection and you are taking immune suppression medications for your IBD

Please do not call the Advice line for test results.
If any changes to your treatment are required we will liaise with you and your GP.
