Breast and Endocrine Surgery

Breast Surgery

The Breast Surgery Service is based on multidisciplinary approach; it is fully supported by a clinical nurse specialist, and four Breast Care Nurses. They provide counselling and support as well as a prosthetic fitting service.

Consultants in radiology, pathology and oncology support the multidisciplinary team. Weekly meetings are held to co-ordinate the care of patients with symptomatic breast disease, and those within the NHS breast-screening programme.

There is a Nurse Specialist-led clinic for patients with a family history of breast problems. Most urgent new referrals are seen in a ‘one-stop’ clinic, where consultation, imaging and, if necessary, biopsy can be carried out during an initial visit.

The Breast Team has a proven record in minimising the need for surgery for patients who have breast lumps and are fully committed to breast conservation surgery whenever appropriate. Sentinal lymph node biopsy is available for patients with breast tumours and when mastectomy is unavoidable, patients who choose to undergo reconstruction surgery can have their operation performed locally in Chesterfield by Miss Azmy who is a fully trained Oncoplastic surgeon.

Endocrine Surgery

Mr Chadwick offers surgery for patients with thyroid, parathyroid (including focussed parathyroid surgery) and adrenal gland problems.

Patients are jointly managed, where necessary, with the Consultant Physicians from the medical endocrinology team.

There is a weekly Endocrine Surgery clinic, and in addition a joint clinic, held with the ENT and Maxillofacial Surgery Teams for the rapid assessment of patients with neck lumps. Patients who attend can undergo ultrasound.
