Information for Professionals

What is CAMHS?

CAMHS stands for Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service.  It was previously known as CAFTS (Child and Family Therapy Service).

Specialist CAMHS consists of mental health professionals working together in a multi-disciplinary team to help children, young people and parents to understand and deal with child and adolescent mental health difficulties.  We generally do this by talking with children and their families in different ways about change although this can sometimes involve the use of medication.
