General and Vascular Surgery

General Surgery comprises the sub-specialities of Breast and Endocrine Surgery, Colorectal Surgery and Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery. All Consultants are fully trained in general surgery and the management of emergency admissions. The Directorate, in conjunction with the Trust, has made a significant investment in Consultant recruitment to ensure that all aspects of patient care, including operations, are directly supervised by the most senior staff.

General and Vascular Surgery is currently maintaining a four-week waiting time for in-patients and day cases.  Routine outpatient waiting time targets are constantly monitored to maintain the minimum wait well within the National Standards. The sub-specialities have excellent records in meeting the national Two Week Wait target for urgent referrals.

We are committed to the principle of patient choice with many operations, such as laparoscopic cholecystectomy, hernia repairs and varicose vein surgery being performed as day cases.
