From today (14 September), we are introducing a revised operating and staffing model in the Women’s Health Unit following a review and consultation with colleagues.
The Unit is caring for patients with increasingly complex needs, with many requiring more assessment, investigation and clinical input than previously.
The review also identified the need for more consistent triage and highlighted the impact that uncovered shifts, frequent requests to change shifts and reliance on temporary staffing have had on colleagues.
From 14 September, the Unit will open:
- 7am-8pm Monday to Friday
- 8am-8pm Saturday and Sunday
The Unit will stop accepting new admissions from 6pm. Patients already receiving care will continue to be assessed and treated and will either be discharged or admitted according to their clinical need.
A dedicated triage nurse will also be available 8.30am-5pm Monday to Friday, providing more consistent assessment and advice.
